Sometimes it is easy to overlook whether or not you are using the latest version of an app on your mobile device. This may not only cause you to miss some important updates and features but it may also crate security risks about your app account. Although the the YouTube app comes installed on Android devices by default and it is set to accept automatic updates, it is possible that you may have disabled the automatic updates or for some reason the updates didn't install. In such cases, you can update the YouTube app manually and I will talk about how to do it in two ways below.
Update YouTube App by Opening the App
If you have force stopped or disabled the YouTube app or turned off its notifications, when you open the app at a later time, it will tell you that a new update for YouTube app is available and ask you to update it. If you are sure that you want to update the app, simply tap on the Update button to proceed with the update process.

In my tests, I noticed that this does not always happen, i.e., the update notification screen is not always displayed. Which means, it may or may not happen when you open the YouTube app on your phone. If you don't see that notification with an Update button, follow the second method below.
Update YouTube App by Going to the Google Play Store
On the app page, you can find detailed information about the app and see if there's an update or not. If there is an available update, the Update button will be active. To start downloading the latest update, simply tap on the Update button.
This will start the update process and update the YouTube app on your device to the most up-to-date version. Once the installation is complete, you can open the YouTube app and continue watching your favorite videos.
